He's still sick...keep the prayers coming!

Still has a high fever. He's only perky enough to walk around a little bit a few times this morning, after a good dose of Motrin.

I'll update. We're hoping for some lab work to come back this afternoon.

prayers needed for Jack

I don't ask often, but I need you to pray for Jack. He started with a fever on Monday night, and has been sick this whole week. Last night we were late for Thanksgiving dinner because he woke from his nap with a "neurological incident" that led to him having tremors for an hour. When I took him to the pediatrician today, his fever was 105.

They ran some tests today and we'll have to go back Monday and run bloodwork on him if he still has a fever. I'd appreciate any good thoughts and prayers you can send our way. Jack this sick is scary.

Jack update

After another doctor visit today we found out Jack's H1N1 has roundabouted itself into a sinus infection/possible tonsillitis. Amoxicillin, here we come.

Thank you for caring about our kids so much. I cannot tell you how much we appreciated the thoughts, prayers, and love sent our way when Jack was so sick! He is doing MUCH better, although the after-effects of being so ill are still making him tired, cranky, and the lingering cough is making it hard for him to sleep. Recovery is slow. Perhaps it is because they were preemies, or that Jack is SO skinny, but my mommy fear kicked into overdrive and I was a lot more worried than I initially let on. I appreciate your prayers, and I am thankful Jack is well again.

Because of how sick the boys have been, I am again picture-backlogged from apple picking trip #1, #2, and pumpkin picking with our Columbus Mothers of Twins group. I'm including pictures from trip #1 which was just the four of us. My favorite is the one of David with the boys. I just love Sumner's face!

Nana and Papa are up visiting from Jacksonville this weekend and we are having a wonderful time with them. The boys are SO excited for them to be staying with us.

So my kid might have swine flu

Jack's really sick. Really REALLY sick. He's sick with "an influenza virus." Doctor says there's a decent chance it is swine flu but we decided not to test him. She told us that Tamiflu is on a shortage, the CDC has been very clear about who can have what medicine they've got, and Jack doesn't fall into that category.

He started with a 103.5 fever Sunday, vomiting, a viral rash, coughing, and was very lethargic. His vomiting was done Monday, and the rash seems to be going away today. He really wants to just lay around, and even refuses to talk much. His fever is still in the 101 range today. I just want him to feel better.

In other swine flu news, we've had our first confirmed case at my school. Joy.

After a fun time with the mothers of twins club this afternoon picking pumpkins and eating donuts, Jack came home this evening and started throwing up.

Awesome.

I feel so bad for him. And this, my friends, concludes the weekend of ugh. Pictures will now follow much later.

Summy's Sick...

I felt as if we had been tempting fate that the boys had gone so long without getting sick. But it came fast, and it hit hard. Sumner has croup. For now he's resting semi-comfortably, but it means a 1/2 day off on my birthday caring for a sick kid tomorrow.

I just want him to feel better soon.

Surgery went well

Just a quick update...the surgery went really well, and they think Jack's hearing loss was more extensive than originally anticipated. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and well wishes. I cannot wait to see how much more he speaks now that he can finally hear!

Surgery scheduled and house update

The ENT appointment went very well and they scheduled his surgery for Feb 10th. Jack had a hearing test done which showed mild hearing loss. I can't wait to see how much he talks after the tubes are put in!

In house news, it's looking pretty much like a done deal. We still have MORE paperwork from the bank to sign, but anticipate being in contract on Monday. Because the house is owned by the federal government, there are a lot more hoops to jump through to get it. Here's a picture:

Summy's fever has finally broken after 4 days and we found out he has a double ear infection yesterday. He is still on the mend but hopefully should be back to his old self in a day or so after the antibiotics kick in.

Snow day!!!

We got at least 8 inches of snow here, and so we got to enjoy a much needed snow day today! Summy's been sick the last two days with a very high fever (cross your fingers, I think the fever broke this evening) so I was glad I didn't have to take a sick day (that I didn't have!)

Therapy on Monday night was good. We talked about some of the fallout from the first session. I had been grinding my teeth in my sleep last week which the therapist thinks is probably related to my mind reliving the delivery as it is now fresh in my mind after retelling it to her. We will begin some of the work next week to start making the new connections dealing with the trauma event and "rewiring" my response to prevent my flashbacks. We discussed that my predominant delivery flashback is being on the delivery table, arms pinned and the anesthesiologist on top of me, pushing on my throat, (so I wouldn't aspirate my food) the doctor cutting me open, (before I was unconscious) and the nurse trying to get the medicine in my arm. I flash back and remember the lights in the room, the viewpoint of looking up, the cutting sensation, but not the pain...this is what we will delve into next week. So far so good.

I have been engrossed in the Twilight novels, which I devoured in the last 5 days. I was so sad to finish the fourth and final book today because I really got into them. One of my students was kind enough to let me borrow them.

Busy busy day!

It was a rough day today! The rundown:

Jack had his allergist appointment this morning. They ran the pinprick testing on his back and the good news is that he has no food allergies. The bad news is that the doctor ordered a blood panel to check for penicillin allergy.

The pipes froze in the garage and burst

I spent approximately eleventy billion minutes on the phone taking care of a ton of stuff

Jack's ENT appointment was scheduled a week from Thursday

Our car needs repaired

and Jack had to have blood drawn this evening. One of the saddest things I've had to go through since the NICU. He inherited my tiny veins so it took a very long time to get the blood. I had to try really hard not to cry.

Tonight I go for my first therapy session to deal with the labor and delivery and placental abruption. Please wish me luck, I'll let everyone know how it goes.

More prayers needed

Sorry to have been so MIA, our statewide music teacher convention is this week/weekend so I have been very busy it seems.

D took Jack to the pedi today on our hunch, and he has his 5th ear infection in a row. We found out on ear infection #4 we think he is allergic to penicillin, so we will see an allergist on Monday. After today, she referred us to an ENT so Jack can have the surgery to have tubes put in his ears.

While the surgery has advanced a lot and is not nearly as bad as when David and I had it as children, please say a little prayer. We should know more on Monday, and the pedi thinks surgery might accelerate his talking/vocabulary gains.

As of yesterday, the boys are 23 months! One month till two! I'll post pics tomorrow!

On the mend!

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers, both posted and sent privately. It touches me that there are so many of you who care so much for our little guys!

Jack is finally on the mend! He went for a re-check on Friday and they found his ear infection had returned. They put him on a very strong penicillin based antibiotic and he broke put in hives all over his body. His fever broke Saturday. He's been totally doped up on Benadryl for the last 2 days but today the hives seem to not be as bad so we are going to try to go without.

Thanks again for your kind words and thoughts! If Jack's ear infections continue, he might have to have tubes. Both David and I had to have them but we're hoping that Jack won't have to. It seems ever since he weaned about a month ago, he's had back to back ear infections.

Yesterday daycare called: Jack had a fever of 103. We took him straight to the pedi, who said it was a virus.

Today it's hit 104.1 and tonight 104.1 WITH the motrin. Please say a prayer. I am very worried!

Technical Help

I need technical help from my fellow bloggers. I am trying to figure out how to add the blogroll to the sidebar that shows the blogs I read as they are updated. Any one know how to do this?

Also, my links never seem to show up. Anyone have ideas why this is happening?

I've been checking my google analytics, and 70% of my visits are from referrals from other blogs. That is awesome! Thanks to all who read and have a link to my blog. If your blog isn't linked in the left, and I have missed you, can you comment and let me know?

We're continuing our sickness. We all 4 have the same "cold." David and the boys all have ear infections and have been on antibiotics, which have helped immensely. The boys are really almost back to all better.

Mine has gone into tonsillitis. Strangely, I had my upper tonsils removed at age 5, but there's a lower set called the lingual tonsils. One became infected when I was a senior in college and they removed it surgically. It's kind of a rare operation. The worry now is that the other one is infected. Please send me good thoughts...they wanted me in to the hospital today but I got meds to hopefully tide me over until the ENT can see me Monday or Tuesday. I'll let you know what they find.

The boys had their first Synagis shot today, finally! This year we have a home nurse administering it and it is much easier. Jack weighed 19 lbs 8 oz, and Summy weighed 21 lbs 12 oz.

Sick Day

Jack had been sick this weekend, and though he went to daycare and was *fine,* he just wasn't himself. So we decided to keep him home from daycare yesterday. David stayed home with the boys and had a lovely day with them. By the evening, we noticed Summy had a fever.

Today Summy was clearly sick, so I stayed home with them. I've been feeling slightly under the weather too: really tired, and my throat hurts a little. Here's a picture from today. I'm pretty sure Jack's milking it now slightly, as it is pretty obvious he is feeling better.
