Miracle worker? Supplements are making a difference!

I have been avidly reading my sensory processing disorder listserv and have been amazed at some of the dietary and environmental things people are doing for their kiddos. A while back I posted about my thoughts/fears on going GFCF and I have been pondering the amazing stories and anecdotes these cyber "friends" have been posting ever since.

So I decided: baby steps, right? Last Sunday when I was at the grocery store, I found myself in the pharmacy area and I picked up some Omega 3 supplements for the boys. Jack refused them from the get go, but Sumner was agreeable, and within 48 hours, we are noticing HUGE differences! Less meltdowns, more agreeable behavior, and I haven't heard him ask "to please turn the refrigerator off because it is hurting my ears" in the last 3 days! The only thing that has changed is the omega 3 supplements.

I've decided to start them on a multi-vitamin and vitamin C supplements next week, and add Epsom salts to their next bath. Eventually I want to work up to enzymes. I know I have a lot of researching to do. I want to find an omega 3 supplement Jack will take as well. I am just amazed: Sumner is interacting more with his brother, having less meltdowns, and life here has been blissful the last few days. Even the daycare teacher said she's noticed huge changes in him!

That's wonderful!

I give it to my twins (2 1/2) as well, for speech issues. The only way they will take it is in something. We squeeze it out into a bowl of yogurt usually and they eat it without issue.

Where did you get your Omega3 and does it come in a liquid form? My boys are tube fed and I have been thinking of adding this to their regimen but hesitant to know which thing to start with first or how and where to get it. How do you know how much to give them?

That's great! We have been thinking about starting the GFCF diet in about a month. I might try some supplements first though as those would be a little easier. I know I noticed a big difference when we put my boy on Polyvisol.

It's great to hear that things are going well! Hurrah!

I highly recommend tracking supplements vs. behavior, etc. systematically, so that you have data to back up your experiences -- we've been able to determine some great patterns, cycles, and reactions this way with my sobn. In his case the issue is autism, not SPD, but you can use the same kind of approach. Here's what I wrote about it a while back:

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Fingers crossed for more happiness!

This is very interesting and I am going to look into it further. Our son has been on track for a SPD diagnosis for about 6 months, and then eerily most of his symptoms seemed to vanish about 2 weeks ago. The only thing I that changed was that I switched him to a different probiotic, started giving him more and at the same time increased his vitamins. Hmmm. I wonder if it is connected. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my son's behaviors do not reappear as quickly as they disappeared. Please keep us updated on how the supplements seem to be doing.

It's an wonderful post to know the views and usage about the product. Really, its awesome to know these information which very helpful for the all the people. A supplement is a product that a person consumes by mouth, which restrains nutritional elements which meant for the normal diet.

Yes, our little guy is on Omega 3s and if we forget to give them to him we notice an immediate change - a lot more big behaviours and less clarity or focus. Our pediatrician recommended quite a high dosage - up to 1000 mgs. We give 500 a day and find it suitable.

Glad it's been positive for you!

Have you tried the Omega 3 gummies? Do a google search at where you can buy these.
