Watch out people, I've got some big boys!

We had our last RSV shot of the season...and the boys were WAY bigger than I even guesstimated!

Sumner was 18lbs 13oz
Jack was 17lbs 14 oz
!!!!!

Holy smokes! What big boys!

We took a walk at the Park of Roses this past weekend, where David and I were married. I took a few pics of the boys but couldn't get one of the two of them I liked all that well. Sumner just wanted to crawl everywhere and wouldn't sit still. It reminded me a LOT of Jack about 2 months ago.

Yesterday the therapist was super happy to see how well Sumner was interacting. She said she didn't want to worry me, but her concerns over autism in him had been growing a little, and she felt MUCH better after her visit yesterday. Thank heavens!

We visited my friend Cassie and her daughters r and v yesterday for a playdate and had so.much.fun. Her daughters are precious and the boys really enjoyed themselves, and stayed pretty well behaved considering they missed their morning nap. Here are some pics Cassie took!

Also yesterday when my mom was over Summy pulled up fully for the first time on the chair. Pictures coming...

Crying, 14 months later

The boys were 14 months yesterday...I'll post pics this weekend.

E and I went to a local craft show of WOHM this weekend. We approached a doula booth and I started to get upset. The woman there immediately exclaimed..."I know you from somewhere." We began the old "rattle off everything you can think of you might have in commmon" thing, and came up with nothing.

As I was walking away, I said "this kinda makes me feel upset, as I feel I really had little to no control over my own birth with my twins."

She asked "what happened?"

and I said "placental abruption"

All of a sudden her face dropped and she started to tear up. She said "honey, I was in the OR when your boys were born. I am so sorry. If you ever want to talk about it, here's my information. Are they doing OK?" (THIS, we then found out, is how she knew me so well.)

I immediately started sobbing. I don't know what made me more upset: she remembered me (was the birth that bad? obviously it was!) or the wave of emotions/feelings/memories that immediately hit me in that moment. We had to turn around and leave. Thankfully E and I sat in that car while she kindly let me cry.

Summy pulled up, and holy crap...10 comments!

I So cannot believe that the last post got ten comments. I didn't think 10 people even read my blog! WOW! How exciting! And apparently it's inspired by sleeping babies!

Summy pulled up for the first time on Monday. It was on a little stepstool, but he got to full standing, just bent over a little bit. We were *so* excited! The therapists were over yesterday and were really pleased with all the progress he's made. I really feel it's only a matter of time until he pulls up to a couch or something. He's also getting 2 more teeth, for a total of 6! His teensy bottom teeth came in, then a top incisor next, and a front tooth after that so he looked sorta like a jack o lantern. But now the other incisor and front tooth are starting to poke through. Jack seems stagnant at 6 teeth.

I had an encounter this weekend that left me sobbing, but I leave that for my next post.

Today we are one.

Today is the day, if I had carried full term, that the boys would have been one. It has been very bittersweet.

We've been working hard with Summy on the bath. He has some sensory issues and our bathtimes haven't been very fun, but today was more promising. We even got a few smiles!

disgusted

A friend, Schmoodle, over at bustedbabymaker, recently lost her beautiful twins at 23w. A horrible comment in her blog has the internet up in arms! I hope you will contact the author, as I did, to show your disgust.

ice cream

Tonight we went to DQ for dinner and ice cream with Uncle Josh and Aunt Erin. The weather here is so beautiful...mid 70s and sunny. Summy loved the ice cream and licked and licked it! We plan to re-create it tomorrow night and video it.

At our most recent OT visit she suggested I try a midler version of the "brushing" they do for kids with sensory issues for Summy. He's having some trouble with his food/eating. A lot of spitting food into hands, smushing it, faces when eating even things he's had many times, crying...so we'll see.

I swear a few days ago Jack said "bye bye" and waved. It also sounded like they both said "duck" yesterday.

Updates, Water Babies, and the best thing about twins!

I have lots to update on!

Our appointment on Friday at the dentist went very well. She looked at Jack's teeth and did in fact confirm that this is yet another wonderful preemie side effect. When Jack was intubated for his CPAP, there was damage done to his teeth. There is a lack of enamel, but it is hard, not porous/soft, which is good news. They will eventaully bond/cover it with whit to prevent cavities and for cosmetic reasons, but not till he's older. We return next year for a re-check.

Sunday night the CMOTC (local mothers of twins group) had their pool party at our local rec center, whcih is fabulous. The boys lived up to their nicknames completely and Jack truly was our little "shishy." He *loved* the water and splashed, taking turns going into deeper water with both D and I. Summy, however, sobbed hysterically and shook. Imagine this: tiny baby sitting in 1/2 inch of water sobbing and screaming, while shaking. It was all very dramatic and hilarious! He say for the end of the time in a towel on my lap and waved to Jack. LOL!

And now, my favorite thing abotu having twins:

...so the therapists have been working with Summy b/c up until about a month ago he never would bear weight on his legs. He still stands uncomfortably and doesn't pull up. We've been working on "standing" him at the couch and cheering him on, to let him get used to the sensation. He usually clutches the couch in his little hands. He can stand, when positioned, for 5 minutes now.

Tonight he was standing and we were saying "yay Summy" and Jack crawled over, stood up, and gave him a huge kiss on the cheek! Too precious!
